Michael Garwood 23rd International Society of Magnetic Resonance Conference 2023

Michael Garwood

Michael Garwood is probably best known for his research on frequency-modulated (FM) pulses. His group has exploited FM pulses to enhance experimental capabilities for numerous applications, among which include: 1) a widely used single-voxel MRS technique called LASER, 2) a quiet MRI sequence called SWIFT, and 3) MRI sequences that make imaging possible despite orders of magnitude reduced B0 homogeneity. Garwood is currently leading a multi-institutional effort to develop a high magnetic field (1.5T) portable MRI scanner. The goal is to increase access of underserved populations to high field MRI, for improving human health and medical care worldwide. His awards include the Laukien Prize and the ISMRM Gold Medal.
