The overarching goals of my laboratory are to understand how molecular motions and biophysical properties modulate protein–protein interactions. My laboratory focuses on healthy and pathological protein interactions in three major systems: 1) fibrillar collagens, which are the major proteinaceous component of the extracellular matrix; 2) α-synuclein aggregation, which is implicated in Parkinson’s Disease; and 3) the receptor binding domain of the spike glycoprotein of SARS-CoV-2, which is responsible for host cell entry of the virus. We use an integrative approach, combining solution and solid state NMR with a wide range of biophysical techniques in conjunction with molecular biology, cell assays, and computational methods to gain an molecular understanding of the roles structure and dynamics play in these biologically important protein interactions.
